Shadow Flicker Modeling
We assess shadow flicker, which can occur when wind turbine blades periodically pass between the sun and a sensitive receptor, through geometric and temporal modeling.
Turbine coordinates and dimensions, sun position, topography, settlements and sensitive receptors are defined in the model to calculate theoretical and, where required, realistic exposure durations. Results are interpreted against the requirements of the relevant authorities and good international industry practice; where necessary, we recommend mitigation measures such as turbine control, micro-siting or operational curtailment.
